Alerts in Slack
Every immediate alert of a project can go to a Slack channel as well as to the people it is for: the same words as the e-mail, a coloured bar for its urgency, a button to open it in Sinio and one to ask Sinio about it. When the problem is over, a second message says so.
Connect a channel
- In the project, open Settings › Alerts.
- On the Slack row of Relay the alerts, click Add to Slack.
- Slack opens: pick the channel that will receive the alerts — for instance
#operations— and click Allow. - You are back in Sinio, which says which channel is connected. A test message was posted there: check that it arrived.
For the alerts alone, Sinio only asks Slack for one thing: posting in the channel you picked. It cannot read anything in your workspace, and keeps no Slack token — only the address Slack gives for that channel. Turning on Answer in Slack, under the Slack row once a channel is connected, is a separate step: Slack asks you to let Sinio write privately to the person who clicks “Ask Sinio” and read their replies, and Sinio then keeps that app's token, encrypted.
Messages are written in your language. To change it, or to move the alerts to another channel, click Edit on the Slack row.
With your own Slack app
If your workspace only allows apps it built itself, connect Slack with an address instead:
- Go to api.slack.com/apps, choose Create New App › From scratch, name it and pick your workspace.
- Open Incoming Webhooks, turn Activate Incoming Webhooks on, then Add New Webhook to Workspace and pick the channel.
- Copy the address, which starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/. - In Sinio, on the Slack row, click or paste a webhook address, paste it, choose the language, and save.
Whoever holds this address can write in the channel: Sinio stores it as a secret and never shows it whole again.
What the channel receives
- The alert, when it is sent to the people it is for: its title, where and since when, what was expected and what was observed, and two buttons.
- Its end: “It’s settled” when the problem is over, or a correction when the alert should not have left.
A message that does not reach Slack is tried again after 1, 5 and 15 minutes, then after an hour. If you remove Sinio from the channel in Slack, remove it in Sinio too.
